A PowerPoint presentation by an Associated General Contractors of America executive compared the Trump White House to a "bad family owned small business" and suggested the GOP legislative agenda regarding health care was like a dumpster fire, the investigative news organization ProPublica reported Thursday.
The presentation by ACG COO Jeff Shoal was produced in July 2017 and apparently inadvertently posted on the website of the group's Texas chapter. It paints the Trump White House as dysfunctional but at the same time productive for AGC because the group managed to repeal or delay several regulations it opposed.
In describing the Trump administration, Shoal suggested it was run like a bad business because the White House was headed by an "autocratic leader," there was no coordination of message or mission, and that the employees "operate in fear."
ACG spokesman Brian Turmail told ProPublica the description wasn't meant to be pejorative.
"Since so many of our members are family owned small businesses," he told the news site. The language in the slide is "a way that makes it relatable to them."
Referring to Trump and GOP attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the presentation simply showed a photo of a dumpster fire.
AGC also found reasons to celebrate. The group touted several regulatory victories, including the repeal of an Obama-era executive requiring federal contractors to disclose labor law violations, elimination of a rule increased the ability of regulators to ensure employers keep records of illnesses and injuries, and delays in rules regarding silica dust and greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles. http://bit.ly/2HXab3G
